11/MAY/13 ELVIS SOPRANO MILLIE KIRKHAM JOINS ELVIS WEEK LINEUP

Long-time Elvis soprano Millie Kirkham will join DJ Fontana on Saturday, August 17, for the Elvis Celebration Concert during Elvis Week 2013. Kirkham's strong, clear soprano voice can be heard on many of Elvis' pop, rock, gospel and country recordings. Fans can purchase tickets to this event by clicking here. Millie first recorded with Elvis in 1957, which yielded, among other classics, "Blue Christmas," which features some of the most unique vocal background work she and the Jordanaires ever did with the superstar. Throughout the next twenty years Kirkham's strong, clear soprano could be heard on hits such as "The Wonder of You," "Surrender," "How Great Thou Art," "Polk Salad Annie," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Don't, Just Pretend," "Devil in Disguise" and many others. She also sang with Elvis on movie soundtracks and appeared with him on stage in Las Vegas. Kirkham has long been a fixture in the music community in Nashville. Her credits include numerous radio and television appearances, collaborations with the Jordanaires and the Anita Kerr Singers, and recording sessions in Nashville, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Among the many artists she has recorded with are Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton, Jerry Lee Lewis, Burl Ives, Johnny Cash, Brenda Lee, Willie Nelson, Pete Fountain, Bob Dylan, Perry Como, Carl Perkins, Rosemary Clooney, Little Richard, Reba McIntire, Brook Benton, Tammy Wynette, Vic Damone, Paul Anka, George Jones, Patti Paige, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Eddy Arnold, Loretta Lynn and, of course, Elvis Presley.

26/APR/13 ELVIS PRESLEY'S MARTIN GUITAR @ NATIONAL MUSIC MUSEUM

The Martin D-35 guitar played by Elvis Presley during the final tour months before his death in 1977 is at the National Music Museum in Vermillion, S.D. The instrument was donated to the museum by Robert Johnson, a guitarist who played in the 1970s with Isaac Hayes and John Entwistle's Ox. Presley smashed the guitar after a string and the shoulder strap broke during a February 1977 show in St. Petersburg, Fla., and it was given that night to a woman in the audience. It is now part of the National Music Museum at the University of South Dakota in the city of Vermillion.

LIFE.com presents a series of photos — most of which never appeared in LIFE — showing Elvis, along with his 15-year-old girlfriend, Priscilla Beaulieu, in Germany on the day he left for the States (March 2, 1960), and Elvis again at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he landed on March 3, sans Priscilla. He was officially discharged from the Army on March 5. These pictures, by LIFE photographers James Whitmore and Al Fenn, capture a moment in Elvis’s life when he was poised to remind everyone who might have doubted it that, despite two years of taking orders, he was ready to again be the King...

02/JAN/13 50'S-70's ENORMOUS COLLECTION OF PERSONAL PHOTOS OF ELVIS

Straight from the Jim E Curtin collection, this phenomenal lot has approximately 4,000 (yes, four THOUSAND) photographs of Elvis Presley, mostly small sized (3"x4") taken by fans. About 85-90% originals, mostly color, some very informal and blurry but absolutely genuine. About two-thirds of these are taken from various 1970s concerts, including several from his last years, with the other third taken as candid shots, either at home or on the road, performing in various activities such as driving, karate, posing with fans, family candids... a truly mixed bag--see pic as microcosm of this collection. The earliest photos found are when Elvis was in the Army, which are mostly B&W. Another fascinating group from 1968 when Elvis is sporting a full beard, presumably during filming of 'Charro!' An additional thousand photos on top of the Elvis photos are all post-death taken by collectors of various Elvis-related memorabilia and locales. An additional 80 or so taken by Jim E Curtin himself. Album after album after album of fan photography of The King found here... should be viewed to be believed!

Opening: $1,000 Estimate: $10000 - $15000

19/DEC/12 TROUBLE FOR PRISCILLA

A few days ago we mentioned that Priscilla Presley had agreed to do one Elvis song on stage in London, where she now stars in the musical Snowwhite as 'the wicked queen'. A visitor in the audience managed to capture that particular musical segment. Although it was filmed with a hand held camera or cell phone, the overall quality is pretty good - we only wish that Priscilla's musical talents were so too.

06/DEC/12 PRISCILLA SINGS ELVIS

Priscilla Presley is to enter the panto spirit this Christmas by performing one of her late husband Elvis’s songs. She been persuaded to sing in public for the first time as she makes her stage debut as the Wicked Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in Wimbledon. “I was shying away from it a bit. But the more I was told about panto, I thought, ‘We’ll have fun with this’. The song — I’m not going to say what it is — does fit the part,” she said. “...my daughter [Lisa Marie] is a singer, her dad, obviously… but the world needs to know I’m not a singer. It’s not serious, it’s just having fun.” Priscilla Presley, 67, said she had known nothing of pantomime — which is not performed in America. “It’s all very new to me. But I’m getting prepared to be booed and have things being yelled at me.” During her stay, she hopes to see Lisa Marie and her youngest grandchildren, four-year-old twins Harper and Finley, who live in Sussex. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs opens at the New Wimbledon Theatre tomorrow and runs until January 13.

21/JUN/12 RAVING REVIEW OF ELVIS FILES V

Our dear friend Lex from ElvisNews.com has just reviewed the new ELVIS FILES V book. Here's what he wrote:

Design - As with the previous 3 the design is fantastic. The layout is taken care of in a very tasteful way and everything is top notch.

Content - With the content you can't go wrong. Elvis was looking better than ever in 1969/1970 (although he had a weird pony for a short while). It is remarkable to notice once again how accessible Elvis was for his fans. Tons of candid shots prove this. The nature of those pictures makes that they are not all that focussed and sharp, but it is always great to see Elvis in his own relaxed way. The fans that prefer the better quality photos get what they want too: shots from Change Of Habit, the stunning series of the 1969 press conference, live in Vegas and on tour and rehearsals for That's The Way It Is… it's all there. Still, it's not only looking at the pictures. There are well written background articles by Elvis-gurus like Piers Beagley, but also original newspaper clippings with reviews.

Conclusion - Erik Lorentzen didnt let me down with this volume, au contraire as the French say. If I liked the previous three I must say I love this one.

Digital production company Digital Domain Media Group (NYSE: DDMG) announced today that it has signed an exclusive agreement with CORE Media Group (formerly CKx) to jointly develop, produce and own a series of ''virtual'' Elvis Presley likenesses for a range of entertainment projects – from shows and appearances to film, TV and multi-platform productions throughout the world. Digital Domain Media Group, the only company whose employees have received an Academy Award for creating a completely believable computer-generated (CG) human, created the CG likeness of Tupac Shakur for Dr. Dre’s recent show at the Coachella Valley Music Festival. CORE Media Group, a portfolio company of Apollo Global Management LLC, is the driving force behind such iconic brands as Elvis Presley, Muhammad Ali, ''American Idol'' and ''So You Think You Can Dance.'' ''...this is a new and exciting way to bring the magic and music of Elvis Presley to life. His lifelong fans will be thrilled all over again and new audiences will discover the electric experience of Elvis the performer'', said Elvis Presley Enterprises President and CEO, Jack Soden. ''The high level of quality entertainment that both CORE Media Group and Digital Domain deliver gives us great confidence that these projects will help continue the growth of Elvis’ rich legacy all over the world.'' Elvis Presley Enterprises is a division of CORE Media Group.

The companies have already begun work on the virtual Elvis Presley likenesses and will announce when and where audiences can expect to see the first virtual Elvis performances. ''...Elvis is the most iconic, most recognized performer on the planet, and we are thrilled to have been chosen to bring new performances and original shows where fans can have their own, new experiences of Elvis,'' said Digital Domain Media Group Chairman and CEO John Textor. ''...in addition to being a dream project on the creative side, this agreement enables us to participate in the success of any number of potential virtual Elvis appearances.'' ''As we look for new ways to offer audiences our intellectual property across multiple platforms, this partnership is the perfect fit for CORE Media, and exactly the type of announcement you can expect to see more of from us,'' said CORE Media Group President Marc Graboff.

''...clearly the team at Digital Domain is at the leading edge of the virtual experience arena, and we are anxious to get working on this exciting project.'' With more than 150 albums and singles certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum, Elvis Presley continues to show the world why he's the King. From Broadway plays and live entertainment to books, movies, television, music, and concerts, Elvis sightings occur every day, all over the world. With more than six million fans on Facebook, over 70,000 official app downloads and more than five million unique visitors annually to Elvis.com, he is also now the King of Digital. From Digital Domain's work on ''The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'' to ''TRON: Legacy,'' ''X-Men: First Class'' to Tupac Shakur, the company has spent a decade and tens of millions of dollars in perpetual development perfecting its technology, tools, and techniques to create realistic computer generated humans.

16/MAY/12 LISA MARIE PRESLEY ON AMERICAN IDOL

Lisa Marie will be making a guest appearance on American Idol on Thursday, May 17 8:00/7:00 CT. Lisa Marie's new CD "Storm and Grace" is being praised for its raw, edgy southern roots sound. Produced with elegant restraint by 12-time GRAMMY winner T Bone Burnett, "Storm & Grace" is an unflinchingly honest piece of work. With its rootsy, Americana vibe, it is, she acknowledges, a departure from her previous albums. "..."Storm & Grace" is the album she was born to make – a raw, powerful country, folk and blues collection that finds her embracing her Southern roots and family name," said Rolling Stone.

Entertainment Weekly praised the "smoky, spooky" single "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet'' while Spinner.com observed: "...Presley has made the strongest album of her career in the upcoming "Storm & Grace". It's a moody masterpiece, exploring the demons and angels of her life to the tune of country-spiced downbeat pop." Purchase your copy of "Storm and Grace" on iTunes and Amazon.com. Also, for more information about Lisa Marie's American Idol performance or for listings in your area visit, www.americanidol.com.

28/MAR/12 THREE NEW FTD TITLES

By the end of the month of April, FTD will provide a new CD, book and vinyl album:

ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT If one place is to be picked as the most important in the career of Elvis Presley, it is without doubt Shreveport in the northwest part of Louisiana. The exposure that Elvis got through the radio broadcast of The Louisiana Hayride in 1954-56 was one of the key factors of establishing the early part of his career. With the exception of Las Vegas, there is no place where Elvis played more shows, and his return to the city in 1975 was like a homecoming to both Elvis and the many fans he had there since he started out. We have chosen to release the soundboard from the evening show of June 7 – definitely a show that Elvis and the audience truly enjoy, and with a great set list featuring old and new favourites. The CD comes in a 5" digipack with an eight-page booklet featuring photos from the June 1975 tour.

WELCOME HOME ELVIS 1960 Flaming Star, in collaboration with FTD, publishes a 260 pages book about the vital weeks in 1960 where Elvis regained control over his career. The format is the same as the well-known FTD book format (KING CREOLE-THE MUSIC and A MOMENT IN TIME). The book includes: More than 300 photos, many of them previously unpublished, text by David English and a CD with the original mono master for ELVIS IS BACK. Pictures include Elvis coming home from the army, several press conferences, pictures at Graceland, coverage of the Sinatra TV show and much more.

PROMISED LAND – The Companion Album - A Special Limited Edition 2-disc 180-gram vinyl set. • Disc 1- alternative version of album featuring Stax outtakes • Disc 2 – STAX more outtakes! • Vinyl cutting by ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS • DMM Copper Mastering • 180 Grams heavyweight vinyl • Strictly limited pressing.

15/MAR/12 HERE WE GO AGAIN: ANOTHER UNRELEASED ELVIS SONG...

A late songwriter's heirs are all shook up over the recent discovery of a long-lost Elvis Presley outtake. The children of Jimmie Crane, who died in 1998, filed suit yesterday to claim the copyright to LIVING TO LOVE YOU, which The King apparently recorded in 1965 but never released. The Manhattan federal-court filing says Crane "produced and co-authored" the number without any help from the late Detroit music exec Albert Leigh. A lawyer for Leigh's sons, Violet Hinton, said she has a 1993 letter in which Crane told Albert Leigh "...I love working with you." and granted him the rights to "...the songs you like" from Crane's catalog. Hinton said she offered to sell the tape to the company that manages Presley's estate, but "...I could never get them to call me back."...

20/JAN/12 THE LAST ELVIS

In the unique world of the Buenos Aires celebrity-impersonator scene, “Elvis” Gutiérrez is a star. By day, though, he must contend with a dead-end factory job and an ex-wife who worries about how his obsessive behavior affects their young daughter, Lisa Marie. Feeling more connected to his persona as the King than to his own family, Gutiérrez retreats from reality until a tragic accident interrupts his plans and forces him to grapple with his real-world responsibilities. Armando Bo’s stylish, yet tender, feature debut illuminates the glamour and grace that a stage can bring to any performer with the soul of an artist. The Last Elvis, buttressed by a stunning central performance by real-life Elvis tribute artist John McInerny, imbues its protagonist with depth and dignity, creating a realistic portrait of a broken man who seeks shelter in his dreams. As our Elvis takes flight within the King’s music, so too does the film around him. - H.Z.

15/NOV/11 LOVE ME TENDER 55TH ANNIVERSARY

Local journalist David Robles said about his movie debut, LA MUJER ROBADA (Love Me Tender): "...ELVIS PRESLEY IS UNBEARABLE. A stupid Western story that didn’t even please the youngsters who went to meet their new idol. This second rate singer is an even worse actor. This motion picture is nothing so I won't rate it... Why did the boys screamed like little girls every time the swivel-hipped star appeared on the screen? Why does he have to speculate with his confusing gyrations? Undoubtedly, he's not a bad singer, but exagerates his voice modulations suggesting God only knows what.".

How about that? Our own Jack Gould!

16/AUG/11 ELVIS PRESLEY'S EPITAPH & ETERNAL FLAME MEMORIAL

Following is the wording of Elvis' epitaph as seen on his tombstone, written by Janelle McComb, commissioned and directed by Elvis' father Vernon Presley:

Elvis Aaron Presley January 8, 1935 August 16, 1977
Son of Vernon Elvis Presley and Gladys Love Presley
Father of Lisa Marie Presley

He was a precious gift from God we cherished and loved dearly. He had a God-given talent that he shared with the world. And without a doubt, he became most widely acclaimed;

Capturing the hearts of young and old alike. He was admired not only as an entertainer, but as the great humanitarian that he was; for his generosity, and his kind feelings for his fellow man.

He revolutionized the field of music and received its highest awards. He became a living legend in his own time; earning the respect and love of millions. God saw that he needed some rest and called him home to be with Him.

We miss you, Son and Daddy.
I thank god That He gave us you as our son.

04/APR/11 ALOHA FROM HAWAII IN TOP 50 OF GREATEST LIVE ALBUMS

The well known British magazine New Musical Express (NME) has listed Elvis' Aloha From Hawaii Concert in it's top 50 live gig list, beating U2, Queen and Tom Waits. Here's the comment of the NME editors: 30 - Elvis - 'Aloha From Hawaii' Recorded: Honolulu, 1973 Why it's so good : This gig was broadcast live via satellite, and was the most watched broadcast by an entertainer in TV history, airing in more than 40 countries. At the time, the event was also the priciest entertainment TV special, costing $2.5 million. If you consider the following this is indeed a very high achievement. NME cater for today's market, a younger market, in my own personal opinion the majority of the other artists have little to no talent. Heavy metal bands and frankly many I have never even heard of. For example the top seven are;

10 - Kiss - 'Alive!' 09 - The Ramones - 'It's Alive' 08 - MC5 - 'Kick Out The Jams' 07 - Jay Z - 'Unplugged' 06 - Nirvana - 'Unplugged In New York' 05 - Johnny Cash - 'At Folsom Prison' 04 - Radiohead - 'I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings' 03 - The Who - 'Live At Leeds' 02 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse - 'Live Rust' 01 - Thin Lizzy - 'Live And Dangerous'

16/MAR/11 ELVIS TO BE NAMED HONORARY CITIZEN OF BUDAPEST

Budapest's mayor says Elvis Presley will be declared a posthumous honorary citizen of Hungary's capital and a city landmark will be named after him. Mayor Istvan Tarlos said Wednesday that Elvis will be commemorated because of his support for Hungary in the wake of the short-lived, anti-Soviet revolution of October 1956. On the city's website, visitors can pick one of 12 locations to be renamed after Elvis, including street crossings, a small square and a site at the foot of Margaret Bridge, which spans the Danube River. On Jan. 6, 1957, during his last appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," Elvis sang a gospel standard, "Peace in Valley," which Sullivan said reflected the singer's preoccupation with Hungarians' plight after the uprising.

10/JAN/11 EPE SUES FOR $ 5,000,000

MANHATTAN - Elvis Presley Enterprises claims Chrysalis Music Group owes it more than $5 million in licensing fees for The King's music. Presley Enterprises accuses Chrysalis of "an astonishing lack of internal controls and related failures," and "failure to properly render payment" of "substantial sums." Co-plaintiff Belinda Aberbach is an heir of the estates of Julian and Jean Aberbach who, with Presley's manager Col. Tom Parker, set up two New York corporations in the mid-1950s to control copyrights on "certain musical compositions recorded by Presley." The corporations are Gladys Music and Elvis Presley Music. Presley owed 25% of each corporation, Parker owned 25%, and the Aberbachs owned 50%, according to the complaint in New York County Court. After The King died in 1977, a series of assignments left Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) owning 50% interest in the compositions, and the heirs of the Aberbach's owning the other 50%. After trusts were set up, EPE remained 50% owner, and co-plaintiff Aberbach owns another 25%, according to the complaint. Under a 2002 agreement, Chrysalis was to collect revenue worldwide and deposit it correctly into accounts for EPE and Aberbach. Chrysalis also was "obligated to promote and attempt to obtain licenses with third parties for use of the compositions." Chrysalis was to get commissions of 5% to 8%, but no more than $400,000 a year, according to the complaint. But the complaint states: "Despite repeated assurances to EPE and Aberbach that proper controls were in place for its royalty processing, in fact, Chrysalis suffered from an astonishing lack of control and related failures. As a result, Chrysalis has failed to pay EPE and Aberbach substantial sums they are owed under the agreement. Chrysalis' failure to properly render payments to EPE and Aberbach constitutes a breach of the agreement." The plaintiffs say Chrysalis also failed to promote the licensing of the music, "resulting in innumerable lost opportunities and revenues that EPE and Aberbach would have otherwise obtained;" and failed to keep true and accurate records. They say Chrysalis commingled funds, took more commissions that it was entitled to, miscalculated foreign currency exchange rates, "claimed, without documentation, that there were overpayments," "erroneously deducted certain advances it claims were unrecouped," "failed to properly account for revenue received," and "made numerous other errors." The plaintiffs demand no less than $5 million, and costs. They are represented by Glen Silverstein with Leader & Berkon.

23/OCT/10 THE ELUSIVE COMPLETE ELVIS PRESLEY MASTERS SPECIAL ADVANCE COPY

For those of you who have enquired about the COMPLETE MASTERS SPECIAL ADVANCE PROMO 30-CD Set which was recently featured both in EP Gold and FOR ELVIS CD COLLECTORS websites, practically nothing is known about how many pieces were produced of this monster.

If only 1,000 copies were produced of the standard COMPLETE MASTERS 30-CD SET, then I guess only a few promos, probably no more than 50 were distributed worldwide.

Happy hunting!

30/SEP/10 CHILEAN MINERS - NICE EPE GESTURE

Regarding the Chilean Mining Disaster. As you will recall, one of the Chilean miners is an Elvis fan and insisted on a photograph of Elvis being sent down to him. He also raised the spirits of the other miners by organising Elvis singalongs.

It was anticipated that the miners would not be freed until around Christmas time but rapid progress has been made and it is anticipated that they will be free in around two weeks time. I, and others, thought that it would be a nice gesture if EPE were to arrange a free trip to Graceland for him and perhaps, the other miners, when they were rescued and had time to overcome some of their trauma.

An e-mail was sent to EPE and I am very pleased to print the following reply I have just received from them: "Yes, we are in touch with CNN Chile and have sent a big package of movies and music that they are sending down to him for the rest of the time. We are also talking with them about a visit!".

13/SEP/10 ELVIS FOREVER

The 'Elvis Forever' concert that was broadcasted yesterday by BBC Radio 2, lasted for almost 3 hours.

In the year that the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll would have turned 75, Radio 2 brought together some great names from the world of pop and rock music to perform his best loved and most popular songs as part of Elvis Forever, a concert in London’s Hyde Park on Sunday 12 September 2010, hosted by Radio 2 breakfast show presenter Chris Evans with a special appearance by Priscilla Presley.

The proceedings were led by Chris plus other guest presenters who are all great fans of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, culminating in a spectacular firework finale.

The line-up of stars performing included among others: Tom Jones, Suzi Quatro, TCB Band [Glen Hardin (piano) James Burton (Gtr) Jerry Scheff (Bass gtr) Ronnie Tutt (dms)] and BBC Concert Orchestra (60 piece) (Conductor Mike Dixon).

On stage, Suzi Quatro was wearing a black leather catsuit, playing a Pink Paisly, the iconic James Burton guitar. Tom Jones performed together with the TCB Band. The concert ended with a firework on the music of the 'Viva Elvis' version of Suspicious Minds.

30/JUL/10 OFFICIAL MESSAGE FROM WARNER USA

As soon that the fan world learned that ‘Johnny B Goode’ was replaced by ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ on the opening credits of ‘Elvis On Tour’, hundreds of reactions where written on various message boards. Lots of fans are blaming Warner or EPE (who don’t even own the On Tour footage) for not doing a good job on this release.

Tom Lucas, VP Marketing manager of Warner USA, explains: The moment Warner decided to release a restored version for ‘Elvis On Tour’, they contacted all the composers and publishers for the songs that are included in the movie. In case of ‘Johnny B Goode’, they never received any reaction from composer Chuck Burry or his publisher.
Warner tried to contact them for a very long time, but never received any reply or contract. It is not the case that Warner did not want to pay enough money to include the song, they simply did not receive an offer to pay for it.

Warner had two options left: forget the whole project and put it back in the vault, or release it with another intro. The fact that they choose ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ and the editing that was used on it, is food for another discussion. Although the opening (only 87sec!) is altered, we still are very happy that we can enjoy the rest of the movie in great quality!

20/JUL/10 VIVA ELVIS - THE ALBUM

Viva ELVIS - The Album, to be released October 12th, is a 21st century celebration of Elvis and his music, featuring the voice of the king in a whole new context. The undisputed King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, remains one of the most iconic and powerful forces in popular culture. "Before Elvis," said John Lennon, "there was nothing." After Elvis, the world looked and sounded different. With a swivel of his hips and the power of his voice, Elvis broke down barriers and shattered the status quo, revolutionizing the worlds of music, film and fashion, while signaling a seismic shift in gender, class, race, and generational relationships.

The Elvis revolution continues with Viva ELVIS - The Album. This postmodern studio masterwork invokes the spirit and essence of Elvis from a contemporary perspective, while furthering the revolutionary impulses of Elvis' sound. Viva ELVIS - The Album re- imagines the king’s own vocal performances in a broad variety of new musical settings. This new sound echos Elvis' own versatility and ability to master all music genres, from Delta blues to rockabilly, from raw soul to gospel, from Southern folk to Vegas pop, while incorporating elements of garage rock, punk, urban and hip-hop.

28/JUN/10 MEMPHIS BEAT - LOTS OF ACTION, LOTS OF MEMPHIS

He's a roguish, bad-boy cop with a good soul, an ex-wife and a funky muscle car, forced to endure the barbs of -- while developing a grudging respect for -- his tough-talking, middle-aged African-American female boss.

Where have we seen this set-up before? Everywhere. Yes, the format is older than Ike and Tina Turner combined -- but sometimes the cocktail mix of the right actor, writer, producer (in this case, George Clooney), music and locale make that old-time format bloom fresh again.

That's what we've got with tonight's premiere of "Memphis Beat" on TNT.

Jason Lee, fresh off "My Name Is Earl," stars as Dwight Hendricks, a quirky (of course) detective who performs Elvis tunes at night in a Memphis dive. He is not an Elvis impersonator (although they are so plentiful in the background of this show, they look like Presley wallpaper) as much as an Elvis interpreter. He's recently divorced, so he is bunking with his beloved mama (Celia Weston), who has raised him to be a southern gentleman devoted to seeing that the citizens (especially the older ladies) of his city are given respect.

On tonight's terrific pilot, Hendricks' new boss (Alfre Woodard) informs the detectives of a new policy: they now have to deal with walk-ins at the stationhouse -- and not just solve crimes to which they are assigned.

First up: An elderly lady with advanced Alzheimer's. When Hendricks goes through her purse, he finds a keepsake from a radio station and realizes that she is Dotty Collins, a legendary disc jockey who was not just the voice of Memphis for decades, but knew Elvis personally.

Someone has been abusing the old lady who knew Elvis! This, of course, sends Hendricks into a frenzy and his new boss into high alert to make sure Hendricks doesn't go rogue. Right.

While it sounds old hat, the who, what, when, where, why and how of this police procedural doesn't go the usual-suspects route. This show really keeps you guessing. And the soundtrack, by blues singer Keb'Mo, will keep you entranced.

Each show ends à la "Seinfeld" with Hendricks performing his Elvis on-stage. Just makes you want to go to Memphis to hear some good music while soaking up a cold beer in a miserably hot dive.

05/APR/10 GRACELAND GATES DAMAGED

At around 2.30 a.m. on Friday morning a black SUV drove through the Graceland Gates, in Memphis, Tennessee, damaging them. The occupant(s) then drove up to the mansion, shouted something to a famale Security Guard (the only guard on duty) and then drove off.

Apparently it took the Memphis Police some 30 minutes to respond to this incident which is not acceptable at this time of the morning. I have e-mailed the Memphis Police Department registering my disapproval at the response time at this time of the morning.

The story is true and photographs of the damaged gates have been posted by Elvis fans from Memphis on the Insiders Message Board on the EPE Website.

It is very strange that no national or international news agencies have picked up on this story.

05/MAR/10 ELVIS IS BACK! 2-LP 180 GR. 45RPM RELEASE MARCH 2010

Elvis Presley's first full-length release after leaving the Army, the aptly titled Elvis Is Back! remains one of the King’s standout albums--and might be his all-time best. While Presley’s records were prone to include inconsistencies (mostly, songs he recorded at the behest of others’ suggestions, either to appeal to a certain audience or tie-in with a film), there’s not one example of musical filler or a single forgettable performance on this 1960 gem. Ironically, Elvis Is Back! stood as the singer’s most complete release for years, as it presents the musician in a focused mode that would soon be derailed by his subsequent work on thematic movie soundtracks

12/FEB/10 ON STAGE: LEGACY EDITION 2-DISC CD

It was at the International Hotel in Las Vegas where – after eight years of non-stop movie making that left no room for live performance tours – Elvis and his manager Colonel Tom Parker finally staged his triumphant return to public concerts in 1969. As if making up for lost time, Elvis unleashed a torrent of pent-up energy at the International, picking up where his black-leather NBC-TV "comeback" special of December 1968 left off.

The International Hotel premiere took place over the course of four memorable weeks in July-August 1969; Elvis returned to the International for another four weeks in January-February 1970. A handful of the 12 songs from the 1969 shows were released in November that year as Elvis In Person at the International Hotel, better known as disc one of the double-LP From Memphis To Vegas – From Vegas to Memphis. The next year, ten songs from the ’70 shows were released in June as the album On Stage (inexplicably including two songs from the previous year).

Now four decades later, those two albums – with multiple bonus tracks on each – have been coupled together for the first time. ON STAGE: LEGACY EDITION pays tribute to Elvis in one of the most outstanding performance periods in his career.

26/DEC/09 TOP 5 FORMER TRUCKERS #1: ELVIS PRESLEY

Sam Walters unearths five famous figures who - incomprehensibly - found something better to do than drive a truck:

1 Elvis Presley

Here is the moment you've been waiting at least two minutes for - Truck & Driver's most famous ex-trucker is The King, Elvis Presley. Before he rose to the status of rock royalty, Elvis drove trucks for a living. It may well have been behind the wheel that Elvis learned his trade - crooning and eating peanut butter. It is certain that his ducktail hairstyle was the fashion for lorry drivers of the Deep South. Appropriately he drove for the Crown Electric Company, a Maryland-based firm that still exists today.

07/NOV/09 ELVIS 75 ~ GOOD ROCKIN' TONIGHT

Legacy Recordings is proud to announce the release of Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight, the ultimate career-spanning collection of seminal recordings by Elvis Presley, in commemoration of the King of Rock & Roll's 75th birthday (January 8, 2010). Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight -- a four CD, 100 song collection -- will be available everywhere on Tuesday, December 8.

The first major Elvis Presley retrospective to cover the full spectrum of the artist's world-changing career, Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight runs from "My Happiness," the acetate Elvis himself paid nearly four dollars to record at the Memphis Recording Service on July 18, 1953, a year before signing with Sun Records, to "A Little Less Conversation (JXL Radio Remix Edit)," a posthumous #1 hit for Elvis in the UK, Australia and more than 20 other countries in 2002.

Offering fans an unprecedented range of essential material, Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight provides a generous selection of the electrifying earth-shattering primal rock & roll of young Elvis; the swinging good vibes of Elvis's soundtrack recordings; the heartfelt humility of his gospel performances and the intimacy of his ballads; the pure pop power and show biz magic of Elvis in Vegas; and a record-setting number of #1 and Top 10 international smashes.

The lavish Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight box set includes an 80-page booklet featuring many rare photographs and a new essay by musical and cultural critic Billy Altman (Rolling Stone, The New Yorker).

A single disc edition of Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight, featuring key tracks culled from the four-disc set, will be released on January 5, 2010 (the week of Elvis' birthday: January 8).

Legacy's release of Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight kicks off a year-long celebration of the life and music of Elvis Presley, the world's first rock & roll star.

Shepherd, 59, the latter claiming 'the King' kissed her naked body. Not to forget British starlet Suzanna Leigh, 63, who said poetically after a session with Presley: 'A person could go to the gallows with such a kiss lingering on their lips.'

(This is a good indicator of how small a sales market the Australian Country Chart is - so keep an eye on the main chart as the best reference as to the performance of Elvis Christmas Duets.)

11/NOV/08 'MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET' MYSTERY SOLVED

On Dec. 4, 1956, Marilyn Evans entered--and exited--rock 'n' roll history. That was the day Elvis Presley stopped by Memphis' Sun Studio and recorded an impromptu session with Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. Historians have long believed Evans was there too because she was dating Presley then and a voice assumed to be hers appears on the recording. Also, a local newspaper photographer captured an image of the brunet alongside the famous foursome, which the paper dubbed the Million Dollar Quartet. "That lovely creature sitting on top of the piano," the caption for the photo read in the next day's newspaper, is "Marilyn Evans, who dances at the New Frontier in Las Vegas. She is Elvis' house guest thru Friday."

28/OCT/08 COED VAULT ~ SEXIEST ROCK STAR SPAWN

This past weekend, Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, gave birth to two twin daughters, Finley and Harper, so you’re going to have to wait another 18 years before you see either of them show up on this Site. But don’t fret! Lisa Marie’s ridiculously hot 19-year-old daughter, Riley Keough already sits atop our Sexiest Rock Star Spawn list. So if Riley is any indication - which she most certainly is - the wait will be well worth it.

27/SEP/08 30CD COLECTION: THE COMPLETE WORKS

The Danish fanclub Elvis Unlimited has just had, what may very well be, the scoop of the year. Ernst Jorgensen is working on a 30 CD Box Set that will contain all official masters as released during Elvis' life time with another 3 or 4 hours of the most interesting alternate takes, demos, live recordings, home recordings. The set will be USA made and a limited edition to less than 10,000 units.

Ernst Jorgensen: This is a one shot deal. It's coming, it's here, it's gone as Colonel Parker would say. It will be 30 CDs in a very prestigious packaging with a fantastic book with it. USA made limited edition less than 10,000. It's killed me for 15 months now. The work load has been absurd but I could not deny it. I could not deny being a part of that. To me, it is the most astonishing wonderful idea. Here's a whole definition at this time is that it is all official masters as released during Elvis' life time with another 3 or 4 hours (and we have to define that) of the most interesting alternate takes, demos, live recordings, home recordings. There will not be 1 unreleased element on that box because that would be brutally unfair and only encourage bootlegging. You have to want to own that thing. We're not taking you as hostages. But at the same time, it is also a total restoration of every Elvis master with new digital technology.

14/MAR/08 LISA EXPECTING TWINS

Lisa Marie Presley is going to have an extra special delivery — at least, Star Magazine reported that. According to the Celebrity Magazine, the singer is pregnant with twins. As we told you last week, the daughter of Elvis and Priscilla is expecting with her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood. But now Star reveals that she's four and a half months pregnant with twins and at least one of the babies is a boy. "Michael told me that he and Lisa have been trying to get pregnant for about a year," a neighbor in Hidden Hills, Calif. tells Star. "He also said that they had a sonogram two weeks ago, and [one] baby opened its legs, and they saw something!' Michael was beaming."

Lisa Marie — who has two teenage children with first husband Danny Keough — is "having a really hard time" with her pregnancy, an insider tells Star. "She has gained a lot of weight and feels terrible about herself. She can't stand to look in the mirror. It makes her miserable. She can be nice one minute but then horrible the next. It's difficult to be around her."

26/JAN/08 FTD MIS-PRESSING AND TTWII CD RELEASE

Ernst Jørgensen and Roger Semon sent out a newsletter. In this newsletter they mention that it has come to their attention that due to an incorrect quark file being used by their manufacturer, the name "Presley" (Presely) is spelt wrong on the spine of their latest release “Wild In The Country.” As the item has already shipped, they will supply quantities of the corrected sleeve as and when requested. All new orders taken for "Wild In The Country" will feature the corrected sleeve.

The label will release a 2 CD version of "That's The Way It Is" in April in the Classic album series (7” digipack with booklet). Track listing is not finalized yet.

Additionally the label will re-release the CD originally included in the "The Way It Was" book as a regular 5” CD. This does not constitute a policy of releasing all book CD’s as separate re-releases though, the label will in each case evaluate the demand and historic relevance for such releases.

09/OCT/07 MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET MUSICAL
The historical "Million Dollar Quartet session" has been turned into a musical. It is based on the book by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux with musical arrangements by Chuck Mead.

It plays in Issaquah WA. (Francis J. Gaudette Theatre) and Everett WA. (Everett Performing Arts Center), September 19 – November 18, 2007.

Synopsis: Gripping Rock-n-Roll Original

This incredible musical, inspired by an actual event, will take you back to the place where rock-n-roll was born! On December 4, 1956, at Sun Studios in Memphis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley came together for the first and only time. They rocked the house...then rocked the world! These four legends-to-be and the "Father of Rock-n-Roll," Sam Phillips, who discovered them all, united for an impromptu recording session that would be one for the ages. The musicians played, talked, played, joked, played, argued, and played all night — and were quickly christened the "Million Dollar Quartet." Part jam session, part bull session, and chock full of rock-n-roll classics from the 50s, this unforgettable new musical will have you dancing in the aisles.

27/JUL/07 ELVIS STATUE IN HONOLULU, HI

On July 26, 10am local Honolulu time, the Elvis Aloha statue was revealed. With this ceremony, the city kicks off his 30-day celebration to remember Elvis. The statue is placed on the site where the legendary satellite concert broad casted all around the world in 1973.

The statue does not have a lei. That may sound strange, because the lei is the symbol of the local citizens to welcome their guests. It’s only for technical reasons that they did not ad a lei. Because of the used material and the process of making, it’s not possible to recreate the flowers in a natural looking way. Without a doubt, visitors are willing to put their own lei around the statue, but that’s going to be hard to do: the pedestal will be 36” and the statue will have a height of 9 feet.

25/JUL/07 VIVA VIAGRA

Three years after the FDA yanked its "Wild Thing" ads off the air, Pfizer is again taking a playful approach with a Viagra TV spot riffing on the Elvis hit "Viva Las Vegas." And this time, they got the agency's OK in advance. The 30-second spot by McCann Erickson, which debuted on last night's NBC Nightly News, features a band of forty- and fiftysomething-looking men at a roadhouse bar playing "Viva Viagra." Although Elvis’s voice can’t be heard, the commercial spells E-l-v-i-s, from the way he sang the song, to the letter style of the written message at the end. Pfizer said the buoyant spot tested better than ads focusing more on the disease. "The goal of these ads is to take that upbeat tone and positive approach and motivate men to engage in dialogue with their physicians," said Pfizer spokesman Francisco Gebauer. Please click here to watch the commercial!

21/FEB/07 NEW FTD RELEASES FOR APRIL
Due for release on the Follow That Dream label is Live in LA a 1974 Concert Soundboard Recording with photo book. The book "Live in L.A." features more than 200 photos of Elvis at his various Los Angeles shows. The main focus is on the evening concert at Inglewood Forum May 11, 1974. The CD is an informal "soundboard" recording of that particular show with a few songs from other shows. The release date is April 1, 2007.
Also due for release on the Follow That Dream label on April 1, 2007 is the CD An American Trilogy with Las Vegas Concert Recordings from the January/February 1972 Engagement.

This quarter's regular 5” digipack release covers Elvis’ engagement at The Las Vegas Hilton in January-February, 1972. RCA did not record entire shows, and several of the new songs Elvis had added to his shows were only recorded once. The consequence is that the main body of the CD – the RCA recordings – feature several previously released versions. Soundboard (informal) recordings of other song performances during the envagement were added to the end of the disc in order to make this as representative as possible of Elvis’ repertoire at that time.

Please see tracklistings on our FTD CD'S section.
